Soy special (new Ellen Hutson!)

I'm here and on the EH classroom blog with a few cards showing off the new Essentials by Ellen sets, designed by Julie Ebersole.

They are SOY much fun! I made 2 cards to share with you today. My first card uses the Wasabi stamp set. I couldn't decide which images to use, so I stamped myself a full background.



I love, LOVE coloring so I opted out of using the images that would do all the work for me. I sat there and colored while texting my husband to tell him to bring us home some sushi.

Once all of the images were colored, I colored the background with a very light pink marker (I know some of you will let me know that I am crazy to do this) and then used a darker pink to add shading under each image. I also used a white gel pen to add little dots, but it's hard to see in the photos.

My next card uses the new Good Fortune stamp set and Fortune Cookie dies. You guys, these are so great. I made up for taking so much time coloring the first card and whipped this one up right quick.

I used a sponge and red distress ink to rub a "lucky" red circle onto my card-front.  I then got too handsy with the water droplets, but I decided to run with it. They are not subtle, lol. I curved my favorite sentiments around the top and bottom of the red circle, and popped my fortune cookies in the middle.

The best part... pull on the fortune.

fortune #337: jolly times are in your future.

I just happened to have a bag of coconut marshmallows in our pantry, and then I saw the moxie fab holiday food & treat wrap challenge pop up.  Game on.

Obviously, a snowman jumping out of a chinese takeout box was the way to go.  ha.  I had just made a silhouette purchase for the box shape, and making frosty friends was lying on my desk... so, it wasn't so much a brilliant idea as it was lazy convenience *wink*

Having the snowman jump out of the takeout box, all Betty Boop style, cracks me up.  I'm kind of hoping someone else giggles a little too... I can't be the only weirdo up in here.  I cut apart the flaps of the takeout box image, and glued them to the outsides, so that I could fit mr. frosty in there.

Don't you love the new Lawn Fawn papers?  The patterns are so sweet.



Using the silhouette software, I was able to create the custom sentiment to fit exactly inside the fortune frame.  I love how it curves and everything.

I put a little baggie of those marshmallows inside, but I also thought of fortune cookies, half dipped in chocolate and rolled in red or green sprinkles.  That would be a cute Christmas treat!

Good fortune {lawn fawn inspiration week}

Here's your fortune for the day: play leap-frog with a unicorn and you will suffer very badly.  hee.

I'm back showcasing "Good Fortune" - another new and super cute lawn fawn set for inspiration week!  I saw this particular "fortune" (which is actually very sage advice) on pinterest somewhere, and I thought a fawnie version would be hilarious.  I did giggle a bit as I was creating it.



I did some masking to be able to stamp the fortune cookie "in front of" the take-out box and the chopsticks. I then stamped the unicorn (from critters ever after) at the bottom and then masked everything to be able to stamp the new "sharp backdrops" in behind.  I love that new background set - it's so great!  I also blended some soft brown ink to tone down that background a bit and have it all blend together.



I was able to type a custom fortune, and have it follow the same path as the sentiments that come with the set.  I did it using my silhouette software.  If you'd be interesting in learning how I did that, leave me a comment - I'd be happy to do a short video tutorial.
