timber! a lumberjack birthday card.

I've got a little sneak peek of the birthday card I made for my nephew's first birthday. My sister is planning a lumberjack-themed party, and I had just the thing to make a card to match.



I stamped the lumberjack (from Lumberjack Love,) some trees, and the tree stump and colored them in with copic markers. I then die-cut them and set them aside.

The card-base was treated to a wash of dark blue sky, with distress inks in Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans and Black Soot.  I wet my fingers a bit at the end and flicked some water onto the panel. Most of the texture was covered up by the images, but you can see a little of what the water did around the lumberjack's head.



From the side, you can better see how I then cut 2 white panels and layered all of the images either behind or in front of the popped up panels.

To end off, I used our new journaling alpha die set  to personalize the card for my nephew's no. ONE birthday.

happy 8th birthday! {lawn fawn inspiration week}

Hi there, and welcome back to another day of Lawn Fawn inpiration. Today, we're showing off the planner set, Plan On It: Calendar.

I don't have a planner, or a cute little calendar. Truth be told, I just get everything written down in my husband's agenda. I figure we'll both know what's going on better if it's all in one place. And I don't think he'd appreciate me stamping cutesy things in his planner.

Luckily, Plan On It: Calendar can be used for birthday cards:

When the packaged stamp comes your way, the numbers are laid out in the same way I stamped them on my card. I recreated the layout on a big clear block, and highlighted the number 8.



To make it even more obvious, I stamped party hats for these 3 party-going-cuties and added the number 8 to them. The set includes all the number circled, as well as plain.

for Dad {lawn fawn inspiration week}

Hi there, and welcome back to another day of Lawn Fawn inspiration! We're showing off new dies today, including the Grassy Hillside Borders.

I die cut the Grassy Hillside Borders, the Stitched Mountain Borders, the Simple Puffy Cloud Frames, and the Stitched Hillside Borders - whew! I die-cut them all out of white cardstock so that I could color them very softly with some of our Lawn Fawn inks (mermaid for the sky, manatee for the mountains, and celery stick for the grassy areas.) I used a sponge and a very light hand to rub the ink onto the pieces.



After all the inking was done, the big-bear/little-bear from Dad + Me were colored and popped onto the backdrop.

I can't wait to use this mountain die for winter/Christmas cards! It will make such an easy backdrop for all sorts of images.

Hi there! It's time for this month's Lawn Fawn inspiration week! We're kicking things off with a closer look at the fun blender-themed set, So Smooth.

I love smoothies, and I love this set! Last night (since the hubs and I splurged on a huge taco and churros lunch date) I had a lemon, pineapple, cucumber and parsley smoothie for supper. YUM!

I used the Stitched Rectangle Frames to create different sections.  The card takes on a comic-style this way. I love the sunglasses you can stamp onto the super cool glasses!



I used a speech bubble from A Birdie Told Me to house the greeting.

Neat and Tangled with We R Memory Keepers

I was lucky enough to find the Fringe and Score Board in the mail - just my thing!  I can't wait to make allll the tassle garlands. For now, I thought I would show off 2 ways to use it for card-making.

My first card features my favorite donut girl with some party fringe:

I stamped, colored and die-cut the girl from Say Yes to Donuts, and stamped a sentiment from the set to frame the donut top. It's so easy to bend and manipulate sentiments to get a whole new look!

To ground the donut girl image, I folded a few sheets of blue tissue paper so that I had 3 tiers. Then, with one quick pass of the blade, I had the entire fringe piece, ready to glue onto the card front.

In order to hide the top part of the fringe (which I had stapled together since I am a lazy crafter!) I cut an extra white panel the same width of the card front and tied some twine around it.

My second card uses the Fringe Board in an even easier way:

I used the girl from Better Together, and created a little square shaker behind her. With a quick pass of the fringe blade, I had strips of pink tissue paper that I cut into little squares with a set of paper snips.

mermaid graduates!

I'm here and on the Lawn Fawn blog this morning, to show off a quirky set of teacher thank you cards... mermaid graduates!



I combined Mermaid For You, A Good Apple, and Smart Cookie to create these end of year cards.



To create the chalkboards, I first stamped the graduation hat, from Smart Cookie, and masked it before stamping the top half of the mermaid. After that I stamped the apple, masked all of the elements and stamped the big chalkboard image. The edges of the chalkboard were then masked to be able to rub black ink onto the chalkboard.



I heat embossed the sentiment after everything was done. With bated breath. Because it would have been just my luck to mess it all up at the end with a simple embossing. ha. Thank goodness it all worked out!



For a final touch, I added glossy accents to the apples, but I don't think you can tell by the photos.

band camp!

Hi there!

I am so happy to have gotten to play with an adorable set from Avery Elle's newest release, called Band Camp.

We don't really have "band" in Quebec like schools do in the States. Is band a big deal in most American high schools? I live for my friend Bethany's band stories. Marching, in the extreme heat, wearing woolly band uniforms. That's hardcore. These animals are only doing it halfway, all naked and stuff. At least the owl's in a sash, but the rest of them...

I stamped a trio of band-mates, and shaded the ground beneath their feet. A bright yellow backdrop from the Brights Collection Paper Pad rounded out the cheery card.



A quick note: my role in the AE design team has changed a bit. I was having trouble balancing out 3 design teams, stamp illustrating, and general mom life. I'll be posting once a month for them, and so thrilled that Jamie was willing to keep me on like this!
