Airplane party (for Lawn Fawn)

Hi there!

I'm really falling behind in terms of keeping up with my blogging this summer! You may have already seen this party on the Lawn Fawn blog a few days ago, but I wanted to share it here too.

Airplane party (for Lawn Fawn)

My nephew turned 3! and I asked if I could make a cake and some fun decorations for his party. I used Lawn Fawn stamps and dies to make it happen.

The red airplanes (from Plane and Simple) are so fun! And what better to pair them with than this vanilla cake with strawberry jelly and piled strawberries on top? yum!

Having the cake match the handmade decor goes a long way into making everything look tied together. And, if you're thinking - but I don't bake! - here's a little secret. When I don't have the time to bake, I'll just hack my way into things. I went to the supermarket and straight for the ready-made cakes. I found 6 inch cakes, that had weird things on top, but otherwise matched my decor. But they were too short. I bought 2 of them (at $5 each!) scrapped off the stuff on top I didn't like, and piled strawberries on top. Not bad, right? Hardly any effort on my part, and it was a huge hit. It tasted good and cost less than making it from scratch.

That's my party planning PSA. ha.

More red airplanes, this time on the water bottles.

The little banners flying behind the planes were perfect for personalization. I hand-wrote each kid's name.

For every party I put together, I always try to think of at least one out-of-the-box item. These red suitcases are my favorite things ever! I used the Fancy Box Die to make them. They were cut out of red paper and then decorated very simply. I cut strips of blue cardstock and wrapped them around. Then, I took a die-cut circle and cut it into 4, one for each corner of the suitcase. I used a strip of which cardstock for a handle. This took the longest out of anything else I crafted for the party, but they are so cute!

For a finishing touch, I added a Tiny Tag onto the front of each suitcase, stamped with the airplane from Plan On It: Vacation.

In the clouds (Lawn Fawn inspiration week)

Hi there!

Welcome to Lawn Fawn's April inspiration week. Today, we're taking a closer look at the Cloudy Hillside Pop-up Add On dies. They are perfect for adding a fun element to the inside of a card, or for doing a little something like this:

I started out with a piece of gingham patterned paper, and framed out the top and bottom with cloudy layers.

The images, from Plane and Simple, were a perfect match. I colored both the plane and the balloons in a buttery yellow.

The one little smiley-faced cloud is the cutest!

Lawn Fawn/Marvy collab

Hi there!

We've reached the end of our Lawn Fawn/Marvy collaboration week, and I'm showing off my contribution:

Lawn Fawn/Marvy collab

The folks at Marvy were so generous and sent me a set of Le Plume markers. They are alcohol markers like Copics, and blend beautifully. I used them to color the plane (from Plane and Simple,) the edge of the clouds, and the banner.  I will definitely be reaching for them again!

The custom sentiment was a labor of love. I saw it on a chalkboard print and wanted to recreate it on my card. The latter part was easy - I used Riley's ABCs to spell out AIRPLANES FLY. No problemo.

For the first half, that I slipped into the banner, I spliced letters and words together from Sewn With Love. What you see here is not my first try, but I thought the sentiment was so sweet and I'm a little stubborn.

Miss you already (Lawn Fawn inspiration week)

Hi there!

Welcome to Lawn Fawn's June inspiration week! We're kicking things off with a closer look at Plane and Simple.

My Sofia is graduating elementary school! She went on her senior class trip a week ago, and I tucked this into her bag:

I just think that a mouse riding a paper airplane is the cutest! The bunny, from Upon a Star, is looking longingly at her mouse buddy (from Elphie Selfie.)

To make it look like the mouse is riding in the paper airplane, I stamped a second paper airplane and used scissors to cut an extra front panel. Once I adhered it on top of the mouse, it looked like he was really inside. I watercolored the area behind the mouse in a purple, so that it would pop against the blue of the background clouds.

To give color to the clouds, I simply dipped a brush into white pigment ink and colored the edges. I will definitely be doing this again!

Stitched cloud backdrop (Lawn Fawn inspiration week)

Hi there!

This month's Lawn Fawn inspiration week is winding down, with all new products hitting the stores tomorrow!

Today, we're showing off the Stitched Cloud Backdrops, perfect for adding subtle sky detail to your card-fronts.

I couldn't help but pair the cover-plate with another new set, Plane and Simple.

The circle frame was perfect for highlighting the plane, and I added some simple coloring to the clouds in the background.

The one smiling cloud is so cute. I had to add a smiley face in there!
