lawnscaping challenge: inspiration

For the latest lawnscaping challenge, we're to take inspiration from a fellow crafter.  I had this invite in my etsy favorites and used it as inspiration to create my own barnyard card.

I might have changed the colors around a bit... and paper-pieced the entire thing... and changed the animals to chicks... but the inspiration is definitely there.

I used patterned papers from the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan collection - I am in love with the patterns and the bright summer colors... I stamped images from lawn fawn's "critters on the farm" to create the barnyard scene, and a hero arts background stamp to get the sun-rayed effect.

Oh, and the little basket I created behind the card?  You're getting a sneak peek, my friends!  Sofia's "sew seven" birthday party is in a month and I've started creating little decorations, favor baskets, and invites - I'm so excited to share it all... very soon!

And now, time for another installment of "things my kids said thursdays": this one comes to you in visual form... and sorry for the fuzzy pic, but there was alot of running around and screaming of "en garde, monsieur!" going on (from both Thomas and Maia...)  For the record, dress-up is a way of life in our home... we regularly feed breakfast to Wolverine, and dinner to Zorro... Maia is just starting to get into it all, but she puts together her own outfits.  Here, an upside down tiara and a superhero cape, and a princess wand.  In a word: awesome.

Thanks for peeking!

  1. Love your card Elena, great inspiration photo. As for your kids, that is awesome and so cute. Hold on to these moments because they go so fast. Mine are teenagers now, so no more dress up. LOL

  2. Love the card. I can see the inspiration. Can't wait to hear more about the party. And, you kids are so cute. Mine are 12 and 14, and still dress up occasionally--we still have our big bin of stuff, and it's very interesting to see what they try to fit into.

  3. What a cute photo of your kids! I think the random costumes they put together for themselves are always the best.

And I love the scene you created on your card. I have just started getting into paper piecing and your paper piecing is fantastic. I now have something the aspire to! The sun rays are fabulous too. Love this card!

  4. Looks like my house! We have a regular entourage of princesses that follow us everywhere - including the medical clinic last night! - who also sometimes take over Emma's body. She looks SO spoiled because she has so many princess dresses... and the real ones from the Disney Store too.... but we've tried to buy the cheap ones, and they just DON'T last in our house, because she wears at least 3 of them every.single.day. Now her little sister is starting to get involved... so if it's an at-home day, they barely even see their real clothes! And don't try to call them anything but who they're dressed up as... you can't fool them!

Watch out for today's post, because I'll finally be able to give you back a "Things my kids say" moment!!

I LOVE your card - you can definitely see the inspiration piece in it, but I like the softness and subtlety of yours better.

And that basket? WHY don't we live closer to one another so we can plan parties together? I don't know anyone else who is like me - except you!!!
