retro sketch #6
Another week, another sketch :)
This one pushed me to create my first-for-this-blog (I think) square card. And how fun! I have a few matching envelopes.
I started out with a kraft card-base, and stamped the herringbone pattern from my clear & simple stamps background set (I'm working my way through it, can you tell? hee.) Then I grabbed my PTI heart prints dies, and cut into a square of "dearest jane" pattern paper, and with a smaller heart in my vintage cream layer. The thick embellishment is just 5 layers of coaster-board, sandwiched together, topped off with a brown patterned paper heart.... and a layer of glossy accents for some added shine :)
The sentiment is from lawn fawn's "making frosty friends."
Thanks for peeking!
ps, thanks for the sweet comments about my card photography - I've been having lots of fun playing around with different set-ups for each card! The most daunting step can be the editing! How much do you edit your photos? What are your steps?

Well I think you should play with square cards more often! I love your take on this sketch; the doily is perfectly balanced against your sweet sentiment! Fabby!

It is a beautiful project!!! Love the text, hearts and the doily!! Gorgeous! Your photography is great! Love the bright atmosphere. I don't edit my pictures really. Just some cutting to make it comes more in the centre or so. Still looking for a better way of editing. But I've only got Picasa and no photoshop or anything like that. What are your steps?
ReplyDeletethanks, Gerdine! I don't have anything as pricey as photoshop to work with :) I use Corel paint shop pro. I usually sharpen the parts of the picture that are the focus, then I brighten the pictures, and fix the color balance a bit... it goes very quickly if my picture is well-taken in the first place :)
DeleteWhat a sweet and pretty card. I love your take on the sketch. Also, your staging and photography is amazing today. I do think this is a wonderful card, but the way you have it set up, a piece of kraft paper would look inviting!
ReplyDeleteGreat card Elena! Agree your photographs are amazing. I struggle with mine all the time--great camera, have Photoshop that I use for cropping and adding my watermark but I stink at taking pics. I love your layered hearts, I may have to CASE that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love all the hearts. Especially the glossy accents on that little brown heart. Great card!
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet--love the negative cut hearts and the peek-a-boo doily!
ReplyDeleteLove the soft grays and those inset hearts! Lovely, lovely!
ReplyDeleteALWAYS have to brighten my photos, sometimes I have to take a lot of blue out, and then resizing... most photos take a minute or so each!
ReplyDeleteI love this card - I love the muted tones, and the layered hearts is such a great idea. It's beautiful!
This card is AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteI love that script background and the adorable little hearts.
p.s. I love the scene you created and your photography!! ;)
WOW Elena - your card is just SUPER GORGEOUS!!! LOVE the layers and doily and script and that heart embellishment? WOW WOW WOW!!! I wanna make one! I really thought it was a brad or something! Thank you so much for playing along with us at RetroSketches this week!
ReplyDeleteThis card is simply stunning! I love the softness of it --the doily peeking out, the heart cut-outs, the script paper, vellum sentiment, and your homemade embellie --just BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteWow I really love the subtle look of this card! The doily peeking out and the vellum are just the right touches!!! STUNNING photo as well! So glad you joined us at RetroSketches this week!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Elena! Beautiful card, love the neutral colours! The photos are great! I edit with Lightroom, for cropping and adjusting the colour.
