my problem with mostly white cards.

I don't usually like making plain white cards (I mean, doesn't the word "plain" sum it up?  ha ha).  I'm a color-lovin'-gal.  But so many designers make drool-worthy cards that are so simple and striking at the same time... and I am taking this class... so I thought I'd give it a go.  My main problem with plain white cards, is that there is no place to hide.  Everything has to be done to perfection.  And that's not always how I roll :)

I was inspired by this card that Jess Witty created for the recent PTI release (scroll down a bit to see the one I mean).  Her card is so vibrant and fun!  I took all the color out of it (almost), and came up with this:

My other problem with mostly white cards is I find them so much more difficult to photograph.... harrumph.

Thanks for looking!

  1. Pretty card. i too have a problem with lots of white space. To me it looks to naked. I think it works since the die & twine give texture to the card breaking up the white.

  5. You have done a wonderful job on your card, Elena! Love how the tags are used in a whole different way on the card. Love it :)
I used to take photos under the light of the rangehood. I did that until I bought my lightbox. I remove the filter and the light is bright. Placed couple of 12 x 12 cardstock perpendicular and clicked away:)

  6. I also understand your struggle with the whole "white" thing, but I think you've done a splendid job with this card, Elena. You've got texture and framing with the tag and the die cut flower and the ribbon and grass add just enough to break up all the white. Your photo also seems to be colour balanced fine, I can definitely tell its a white card and can see the impression embossing on the card's base. xx

  7. Beautiful card, Elena! The texture is great! I find that I create too many white cards and I am trying to challenge myself to use more color cardbases. And yes, photographing them is a challenge I have yet to conquer. You did fabulous!

  8. I really like how you tied the two tags together. Your card is wonderful. I struggle with white, too. I am more a color girl!
