countdown to dad, part 4

Today, I'm showing you how to make your very own 5-point star.  I'm sure there are a million other ways to make them, but I learned this origami-ish version as a young tween at summer camp and it stuck.  So without further ado...

start with a sheet of paper, 8.5x10inches (not 8.5x11in!)  score it down the middle

fold it (folded part is at the top)

fold it again, this way.... then unfold it before...

folding it again this way.  You'll want to find your center, basically.

on the right, the red words aren't showing up well.  they say "line it up with the scoreline"

read the words and do what they say...
my son thought we were making a paper-hat at this point...

almost done...

find the angle that gives you the prettiest star - it's all trial and error for that...

Once you unfold your star, you'll need to re-adjust some of the score line to make it pop in the right places... when you're done, you'll have the perfect non-feminine embellishment for Father's Day!

On the docket tomorrow: Father's Day treats!

  1. What fabulous Father's Day projects you have on your blog! The decorations are beautiful but the card with your husband's head on it, "driving" the truck you cut from patterned paper is my favourite!
